Burqa'i is one of the critics of Islamic studies who denies Shiite beliefs. Not only did he not accept the Shiite Imamate, but he also wrote articles rejecting the Imamate. He has also written a book on the rejection of Imam Mahdi (aj.) entitled “A Scientific Study of the Hadiths of Mahdi” in which he denies the existence of Imam Mahdi (aj.) and the issues around him, including the Quranic verses related to Hazrat Mahdi (aj.). Therefore, the present study deals with the chapter “Bāb al-Āyāt al-Mo’awwaleh Beqiyām al-Qā’em” in this book. It mainly examines the validity of the opinions of Sayyid Abolfazl Burqa’i focusing on the verse “He is Who sent his messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, that He might cause it to prevail over all religions, though the polytheists may be averse” (Surah al-Tawbah: 33). The required data for this article were collected from library sources, and they were processed using the descriptive-analytical method. According to the results, some of the flaws of Burqa’i in the afore-mentioned book are: insulting and attacking the narrators, weakening the narrators without referring to the books of rijal and disregarding “jary and tatbiq” issue. Also, raising some problems, Burqa'i attempts to point out that verse 33 of Surah al-Tawbah is not related to Hazrat Mahdi (aj.), but the problems raised by him are not compatible with the correct interpretation of the verse.
[1]. a discipline of Islamic religious studies within hadith terminology in which the narrators of hadith are evaluated
[2]. This is a term related to the interpretation of the Quran which means that the subject of a verse is not exclusive to the person or persons about whom the verse was revealed. It rather includes any case that shares attributes and characteristics with the case about which the verse was revealed.
