In psychology, although some types and stages of loneliness are considered normal and real, some types and stages of it are pathological. In religious texts, thanks to God's constant support and companionship, loneliness is regarded as a kind of visonal, attitudinal, sentimental and emotional damage, but there is also useful and positive loneliness as human beings also need conscious withdrawal and selective loneliness in order to grow, evolve and survive intellectual, social, and cultural contaminations. Accurate knowledge of the boundaries of pathological loneliness and useful loneliness is achievable by knowing their causes, symptoms and consequences. The present descriptive-analytical research has comparatively introduced three symptoms for pathological loneliness and considered its consequences as “mental exhaustion” and “physical exhaustion”. Ten damages have been identified for the first type and four for the second. The findings of the study indicate that there is some kind of alignment between the verses of the Quran, narrations, the views of interpreters and the theories of psychologist.
