Taqwá (God-consciousness or piety) is one of the foundational concepts in the Holy Qur’an, playing a pivotal role in individual and social guidance and elevation. This study employs thematic content analysis and contextual examination of Qur’anic verses to show that, in addition to presenting taqwá as a lofty moral virtue, the Qur’an offers practical guidelines for its realization. Unlike previous studies that have primarily focused on the virtues of taqwá, this research extracts and analyzes Qur’anic strategies aimed at strengthening taqwá in daily life. Findings indicate that the Qur’an portrays taqwá as a self-regulatory process encompassing the control of carnal desires, emotional management, and alignment of behavior with divine values. Key strategies include persistence in servitude to God—such as patience and steadfastness—as well as the use of preventive mechanisms against moral lapses, like establishing mental and practical barriers to avoid sin, practicing self-restraint, and engaging in physical purification to enhance spirituality. This is achieved through commitment to lawful and healthy nutrition and the discipline of fasting. A major innovation of this study is the development of an analytical framework for extracting Qur’anic concepts through contextual verse analysis. This approach enables a deeper understanding of Qur’anic messages and identification of actionable strategies for the path of self-purification.
