This study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to examine Sayyid Qutb’s methodology in Al-Taswīr al-Fannī fī al-Qur’ān. Its main objective is to analyze two central dimensions of his approach, namely objectivity and holism, within three theoretical frameworks: positivism (with its emphasis on empirical observation), interpretivism (with its focus on subjective understanding), and critical realism (which integrates critique and interpretation). The findings indicate that, on the one hand, Qutb’s emphasis on manṭiq wijdānī—that is, the intuitive and affective apprehension of Qur’anic meanings—and concepts such as the immediacy of perception align him with the interpretivist tradition, particularly hermeneutics, which emphasizes the principle of empathy. On the other hand, his critical openness, attention to the chronological order of Qur’anic revelation, and use of interdisciplinary methods such as musical analysis and imagery also reveal elements of critical realism. The originality of this study lies in clarifying the complex interaction of these approaches and in proposing a coherent model for the literary reading of the Quran that avoids both radical subjectivism and the limitations of purely empirical methods.
